Polwarth Design has been a part of the Northland fashion scene since 1985. A family affair, twin sisters Karen, Cheryl, and mother Dawn designed made to measure garments from a converted garage in Ruawai, opening retail shops in both Dargaville and Whangarei. Dawn's death from cancer six years later was a major blow to the girls, as she played a key role in the designing and manufacturing of the Polwarth Design label. Left with a factory, two shops, and five children between them under the age of 6, Karen and Cheryl decided to cease manufacturing and seek designer labels that would resonate with the varied lifestyles of their building Northland clientele.
Karen and Cheryl have continued to maintain this model ever since, supporting talented New Zealand and offshore designers that give their shop a unique stance in providing for all their customer's dreams. The addition of their online store and social media representation has expanded their presence both nationally and across the ditch.
Giving back to the community has always been a priority for Karen and Cheryl and they have supported many organisations with fundraising fashion parades over the last three and a half decades. Dressing thousands of models in outfits they felt fabulous in has given the girls an in-depth understanding of how to address body shape, colouring, and individual personality traits to find that perfect outfit for every customer for every occasion every time.
